Dutch Theodóra in the snow

Look o look: we had some snow in the Netherlands last week and temperatures dropped down to a seldom felt -16'C! Dutch Theodóra desperately needed warmer clothes, so I finished her Lett Lopi sweater and knitted her a warm skirt. Still she doen's wear socks yet, but I found some wooden shoes for her to wear. No need to walk in the snow on bare feet.My intention was to knit her a Staphorst costume, that's the reason the skirt is a little shorter then in the pattern. Now I've changed my mind, because Dutch Theodóra is not a very Staphorst type of girl and I will probably rip the skirt back and knit her some warm pants instead.

I got to go to Anchorage last week. The best thing about Anchorage are the views of mountains all around. So my view is dominated by the hotel's other towers, but there are still mountains:

One day I got out to see the statue of Captain Cook:

Then there's the view of the frozen Cook Inlet:

So nice to get out into the sunlight!

On the way home we got a view of Denali, also known as Mt McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America:

I almost lost my hat in the airplane, but the nice man behind us found it. Yay!

Noël à Lille

J'ai passé Noël dans le berceau de ma famille : La capitale des Flandres (Lille) dans le département du Nord en France.C'est une ville merveilleuse à cette époque de l'année et quelle ambiance de fête : grande roue illuminée, chants de Noël, marrons chauds, arpenter les pavés, lever le nez...Voici un petit aperçu : les photos en haut et en bas au centre ont été prises en Belgique (Bruges et Ypres - une sacrée ambiance, aussi !!).

I spent Christmas in the birthplace of my family: The capital of Flanders (Lille) in the department of Nord in France. This is a wonderful city this time of year and what a party atmosphere: illuminated Big Wheel, Christmas carols, roasted chestnuts, pounding the pavement, look up ... Here's a glimpse: the photos above and below the center has been taken in Belgium (Bruges and Ypres - a sacred atmosphere, also!).

If I wanted a white Christmas, I would have stayed home. Instead, I went for a big plane trip east:

I worked hard and managed to make two ponchos. Here we are posing outsite in the sun. See that green shoot to the left? Amazing!

The twins are doing well and they like the ponchos.

Dutch Theodóra got a new dress. I know, I know, what she really needs are some warm cloths and at least warm socks for winter, but well these colourfull leftovers were more fun to knit! Prjóna-Heklu líkaði ekki þessi umgangur sem hafði verið á heimilinu síðustu nætur. Hún hefði nú haldið að hjónin hefðu af þessu einhverjar áhyggjur, en þegar þau vöknuðu á morgnana með litlu stúlkunni og sáu ummerkin, urðu þau bara kát!

Að vísu hafði ekkert verið tekið, fyrir utan eina dollu af hrærðu skyri. En þessir stigamenn skildu alltaf eitthvað eftir í skótaui litlu stúlkunar, sem hún geymdi út í glugga. „Sjálfsagt eru þeir hafðir þar til þerris“ hugsaði Prjóna-Hekla með sér.

Hvað þeir skildu eftir þessir pörupiltar var af ýmsum toga. Lítil leikföng, spil og kerti og all oft mandarínur. Þegar mandarínurnar fóru að birtast létti Prjóna-Heklu ögn, því ekki gátu þeir verið svo slæmir, fyrst þeir gáfu stúlkunni mandarínur. „Hún hrynur þó ekki niður úr skyrbjúg á meðan barnið“.

Síðustu nótt gat hún þó ekki lengur á sér setið og hugsaði með sjálfri sér að nú skyldi hún krefjast svara! Hún lá í leyni undir sæng litlu stúlkunar og þegar hann birtist þessi tröllslegi púki þá spratt hún á fætur. Prjóna-Hekla starði á hann drykklanga stund en datt ekkert hnyttið í hug til að segja. Ofurhægt og án þess að hafa af henni augun lagði sveinki í skóinn lítinn böggul; hund vafinn inn í hvíta hyrnu og hvíta, ofursmáa vettlinga. „Hafðu nú þetta gæskan og gleðileg Jólin“ sagði karlinn áður en hann hvarf út í náttmyrkrið.

Prjóna-Hekla varð svo upprifin af hundinum og nýju flíkunum að hún steingleymdi að spurja karlinn hver hann væri eða hvað hann vildi. Nú yrði hún ekki jólakettinum að bráð og reyndi hann að éta hana þrátt fyrir nýju prjónaplöggin, þá hafði hún hundinn til að flæma hann á brott. Því að heimiliskötturinn hafði sýnt það síðustu nætur, að hann var gagnslaus sem varðköttur...

Hekla did not like the unexpected guests that had been sneaking around for the last several nights. She would have thought the parents would be concerned about this home-invasion but when they awoke in the morning with the little girl, they seemed pleased!

On the other hand, nothing had been stolen except some skyr* from the kitchen. But these rascals always left some trinkets in a shoe the little girl had left in the window for some reason. "She probably left it there to dry", Hekla thought to herself.

These hooligans placed all manner of things in the shoe. Small toys, decks of cards and candles and sometimes mandarins. Hekla was a little bit relieved when the mandarins started to appear. They couldn't be all bad, if they gave the little girl mandarins. "At least she won‘t get scurvy, the poor thing".

But last night she could no longer stand by and do nothing. She was going to demand some answers! She hid under the covers next to the little girl and when one of those ghastly looking fellows appeared she sprang up! She stared at him for a long while without knowing what to say. Slowly and without taking his eyes of her the troll placed a small parcel in the shoe; a dog wrapped in a shawl and two small mittens. "There you go my dear and have yourself a merry Christmas" he said before disappearing into the darkness.

Hekla was so pleased with the dog and the new knitted things that she forgot all about her questions. With these new clothes the dreaded Yule Cat would not eat her and if he even tried to snag her, she would have her dog to protect her. After all, the resident house cat had shown himself to be completely useless when it came to defending the home from invaders.

* Skyr is a yogurt-like Icelandic milk product. One of the thirteen Yule Lads has an affinity for skyr and is known to steal it.

Dutch Theodóra joined a spinning bee last week. It was a happy gathering with a lot of woolly talk. One of the ladies brought us some merino fleece from Australia! Theodóra would like to learn spinning. Well a little spindle wouldn't be much of a problem to make for her.

Vlieland is one of the islands in the "Waddenzee" at the north of The Netherlands and Dutch Theodóra went there on a trip.
It was a beautiful day, so she could stay at the upper deck of the boat.

Here she takes a rest from climbing up the stairs to the charming Vlieland lighthouse.

Oh, what a wonderful view!

Theodóra visits the beach at the Northsea-side of the island.

What is that? Poems in the sand? She has never seen something like that before.

At the end of a wonderful trip she sees the sun going down. The end of a great weekend.

She is on vacation in Germany and in the wonderful town of Monschau is the lovely house called Rivendell, with lots of funny little places to explore.

On s'est fait plein de nouvelles copines, Lady Godiva, la rouquine et Kamyko! Elles étaient toutes nues, peut-être pour aller se baigner?

We met so many new friends, Lady Godiva, la rouquine et Kamyko! They didn't have any clothes on, maybe because they were going to have a bath?

La prochaine fois, je me baignerai aussi, ça a l'air drôlement bien!

Another Theodóra just saw the light. Let me present you Dutch Theodóra, a sweet little girl that has a little less slim figure than her friends, thanks to a felting trip in the wash dryer of her creator...
Well it doesn't seem to bother Dutch Theodóra! She seems to be a happy thing that is very eager to discover the world.

Look at this: what is she doing there? Looks like she intends to take a bath in a river in November?! Well well and playing Tarzan as well near that same Kleine Laufenbach in Monschau, Germany.

Chez Grand-Mère Bleuette

Me voilà en visite avec Smali chez mon illustre ancêtre Bleuette, la poupée qui a donné beaucoup de bonheur aux petites filles du temps passé.

C'est une poupée qui était vendue avec une petite chemise comme c'était la mode à l'époque, restait à ma toute jeune mère de lui fabriquer des vêtements, cousus, tricotés, crochetés ... un peu comme pour moi.

Ces explications se trouvaient dans le journal pour petites filles : La Semaine de Suzette. Ma maman Modestine m'a dit qu'elle aussi avait eu une Bleuette dans sa jeunesse.

C'est peut-être et même j'en suis sûre, ce qui lui a donné le goût de tous ces travaux d'aiguilles.
Il y a quelques années au début de son blog elle a raconté et présenté ses Bleuettes.

Aujourd'hui elle nous a fait rencontrer ces belles demoiselles, Smali en était tout joyeux.

J'aimerai qu'elle me fasse autant de jolies toilettes que celles qu'elle a fait pour mes ancêtres.

Tricoter dans la nuit magique islandaise

Demain matin très tôt, nous serons dans l'Eurostar direction Londres où nous prendrons ensuite l'avion pour l'Islande!!!

Very early tomorrow morning we are travelling by Eurostar to London and we'll then take the plane to Iceland!!!

Je ne suis pas seule, ma copine La Rouquine m'accompagne et nous avons rendez-vous avec Theodora, Henrietta et Smali:)

Là-bas, il faudra penser à faire un peu de shopping car, Lady Godiva ou non, je ne compte pas passer l'hiver toute nue! Un ensemble Lopi, un costume traditionnel, un manteau dentelle voire un châle islandais de Noël... Que de choix!!!

...On verra sur place, les nuits magiques et les aurores boréales sauront nous inspirer...

Shopping will be the motto because Lady Godiva or not I won't stay naked the whole winter! A Lopi set, a traditional costume, a lace coat or an Islandic Christmas shawl... there are so many choices!!!

...we'll know when we get there, the magical nights and the magnificent sunsets will inspire us...

Nanako and Smali took the plane the other day. It was no problem at all to go through security with the knitting needle. :-)

Hi there! We are twins who were born here in Alaska. We're heading to the other side of the country tomorrow to meet our new friends, but first we got to see a bit of the town. Here we are down by the Chena river in the fresh snow.

We thought this aurora art on the courthouse was really cool.

We attended a Tai Chi workshop here - boy are we tired!

The best thing at the Tai Chi center is the lion costume.

We finished the day meeting a few other knitters here. What a fabulous day!

I am back from Iceland, you can see below that I made a little stop at famous Blue lagoon.
Je suis de retour d'Islande, j'ai même pu faire un petit tour au Blue Lagoon où l'eau est aux alrentours de 38° C.

Et dans mes valises, j'ai ramené plein de laine islandaise...hi hi...j'ai plein de projets :)

Naissance à la boutique

C'est en l'an de grâce 2011 que je suis née en terre belge, du sac à tricot d'une dame plein de fantaisie.

Entre roses anciennes et boites à chapeau, l'endroit est accueillant.

L'accueil est agréable, je me suis rapidement intégrée.
J'ai tant de choses encore à découvrir, la boutique fourmille de projets.
D'ailleurs, j'y retourne! Je vous laisse avec une photo de moi sur l'épaule de ma créatrice, merci Hélène de m'avoir donner la vie !!

Theodora fait du ski de fond en Islande

Theodora is going cross-country skying in Landmannalaugar this winter, in March. She's going to assit Hélène with the knitting workshops during the Winter knitting tour, an the rest of the time, she will go skying with the other group and she will walk with snow shoes in the lava fields and the canyons and up the explosive crater and she will admire the northern lights and have a hot bath outside in the gothermal pool and she just can't wait!

Theodora va faire dur ski de fond à Landmannalaugar cet hiver, en mars. Elle va aider Hélène avec les ateliers de tricot pendant le voyage Tricoter dans l'hiver islandais, et le reste du temps, elle va faire du ski avec l'autre groupe, et elle va marcher avec des raquettes dans les champs de lave et els gorges et voir un cratère explosif et elle va admirer els aurores boréales et elle va se baigner dehors dans la source d'eau chaude et elle a tellement hâte!

Mon Henrietta est prête à voyager, toute de neuf vêtue, son dressing s'agrandira au fur et à mesure (un petit châle pour tous les jours est en cours).Elle est ravie de retrouver ici ses copines d'ici et d'ailleurs.Elle vit dans le Centre de la France, le Loiret plus exactement, en attendant d'aller faire un tour dans son pays d'origine.Pour l'instant,elle explore le jardin, grimpe dans les arbres, cueille des cyclamens, se roule dans les pensées et se dore au soleil. Première étape, un petit week-end dans le grenier à blé de la Beauce.

Undir teppinu er Hekla örugg...

Látið ekki blekkjast af rólegu yfirborði Heklu, hún skelfur að innan! Hún hræddi sjálfa sig í kvöld þegar hún hvíslaði draugasögu að heimilisföðurnum sem lá í fasta svefni. Henni fannst hún þurfa að hefna sín á flóninu sem hafði fyrr um daginn ryksugað einn sokkinn hennar, þannig að hún lagði sig alla við þegar hún fór með söguna um Djáknann á Myrká. Ekki var að sjá að sagan hefði mikil áhrif á hann, fyrir utan stutt hlé á hrotunum þegar hann snéri sér á aðra hliðina. Hekla varð aftur á móti skelkuð og hljóp eins hratt og fætur toguðu inn í herbergi litlu stúlkunnar, þar sem henni fannst hún öruggari í mjúkri birtu næturljóssins.

Mikið er það nú gott að hafa teppið til að skríða undir...

Don't let Hekla's calm expression fool you, inside she shivers! She frightened herself tonight when she was whispering a ghost story to the little girl's father who was fast asleep. She felt she needed to avenge herself on the fool that had earlier in the day vacuumed one of her socks, so she was extra theatrical when retelling the horrifying tale of the deacon of Myrká. It had no effect on him, other than a brief pause in his snoring when he turned to his other side. Hekla however was thoroughly spooked and ran as fast as she could into the little girl’s room where she felt safer in the soft glow of the nightlight.

It’s a good thing she has her blanket to crawl under...

L' hiver approche, il faut des petits vêtements chauds ...C'est terminé le temps où l'on traine nue dans le jardin Théodora... :))

Þetta er Hekla. Hún býr hjá nöfnu sinni á Akureyri og líkar vistin vel. Kötturinn á heimilinu lítur hana hornauga, það er lopafnykur af þessari litlu konu og helst vildi hann tuskast með hana en það yrði húsfreyjan sjálfsagt ekki ánægð með, hún sem vakti heila nótt við prjónaskapinn. Heimasætan var svo óþolinmóð nefnilega og vildi hafa hana með í leikskólann, helst prúðbúna í peysufötunum.

Helstu áhugamál Prjóna-Heklu eru að taka slátur, prjóna íleppa og hvísla draugasögum í eyru húsbóndans á meðan hann sefur!

This is Hekla, she lives with her namesake in Akureyri. The cat she shares a home with takes her with a grain of salt... the little woman stinks of wool and he would like nothing better than to toss her around but the mistress of the house would not be pleased with that. After all, she did stay up one whole night knitting her. You see, the little girl was impatient and wanted to take her along to school, preferably all dressed up.

Knitted-Hekla's main interests are making Icelandic haggis, knitting inserts for her shoes and whispering ghost stories into the master's ears when he's asleep!

An elven cloak

Theodora has a dark-haired cousin Thordis. Thordis desperately wanted an elven cloak. She spun the yarn and set to work weaving:

She ran out of yarn and had to make more in a similar shade:

Once the weaving is done, there's a lot of sewing!

She wore it out into the woods, then used it as a blanket when taking a rest:

Tout d'abord, Merci à Hélène pour cette l'invitation. Ce blog

est une bonne idée, ainsi toutes les Théodora de la planète

vont pouvoir se rencontrer !

Théodora la blonde a pris forme sous mes aiguilles

comme par magie grâce au modèle judicieux d' Hélène .

et puis elle s'est vêtue d'une culotte, d'une robette et

d' un petite châle pour se réchauffer.

La rentrée pointant son nez, il lui fallait un petit pull,

je crois que la petite robe qui tourne lui plairait bien ...

Merci Hélène pour l'invitation, je suis ravie de rejoindre le club des poupées globe trotteuses mais il manque juste un petit détail ... je n'ai pas encore tricoté la mienne !!

Heureusement, je reviens tout juste d'Islande avec Henrietta et j'en ai profité pour glisser dans mon sac à dos de quoi tricoter une jolie poupée à mon retour en France !

Reste juste à trouver le temps mais à voir vos jolies demoiselles, ça va me motiver !

Pour le reste du tricot/trek, c'est ici chez moi ...

C'est lors du voyage Tricoter au Nord de l'Islande que l'idée a surgi... La Theodora de Cécile était du voyage bien contente de "retrouver" son pays natal!
Le principe: Alors voici un blog pour vous, pour poster des images de votre Theodora chez elle ou en voyage! J'ai hâte de vous voir et de vous lire toutes! Bien sûr, vous écrivez dans votre langue!
